Tianyuan “Robert” Zhang is a currently a student in the Master of Science in Real Estate program at UNC Charlotte. He has education and experience in wide range of subjects including financial economics, real estate finance, applied mathematics, data science, business strategy and policy, intercultural communication among other business and mathematics areas. Prior to attending UNC Charlotte, Robert worked at Pepperdine University. He was responsible for analyzing the US university ranking system with various statistical programs. He was later recruited as an investment consultant for the University endowment fund. Afterward, he conducted risk assessment on international agricultural commodities at the Bank of Communication Schroder Fund Management in Shanghai China. He also worked at George Washington University, where he taught corporate finance and financial derivative securities as a teaching assistant, and later worked as a strategy consultant at the university entrepreneurial center to help Korean small and medium size businesses enter the US market in a Korean government project. While he was in graduate school, he worked as an assistant to the CFO at Hubei Zhengfeng Project Construction to value projects in a government bidding process, and conduct due-diligence on its potential US investments. After he moved to Charlotte, he worked as a quantitative analyst to value commercial mortgage backed security (CMBS) and participated in the key decision of the portfolio’s special servicing at Metrix Credit Technologies. There he also acted as client liaison to solicit real estate investment capital from China.
Robert earned his B.S. in Finance and minor in Applied Mathematics at the Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, and M.S. in Finance from the George Washington University located in Washington DC. He completed tests for Financial Risk Manager (FRM) designation and is currently finishing a certification in data science from the Johns Hopkins University. He is also an associate member at the Urban Land Institute. He speaks native Mandarin, fluent English, introductory Japanese, and is learning more. Robert was born in Wuhan China, where his family currently lives.
